Valentine Countdown

Jewelry from the heart. Diamonds might be a girls best friend, but these simple jewelry ideas make great gifts for your other valentines sweeties. Teens, kids, and girlfriends will love wearing jewelry from the heart.

Glass

Glass pendants. I was inspired by Allison’s glass work. These are my VERY simplistic nod to her work! The best part.. they are SO easy and fun to make.

you will need

  • your favorite rub ons (these are Hambly)
  • glass slides[memory glass] and pendant frames (both from Ranger)

Rub on the image of your choosing. And sandwich it with another slide. Slip into the slide holder.. and Viola! instant wearable art. I am going to fuse these permanently with some solder… when I get into the mood and my kids are in bed. [the rub on is between the glass.. making this VERY wearable]

For more “pizzaz” add some bling. When I fuze them, I think I might add some vintage rhinestones to the top piece of glass. We’ll see. They are pretty cute as is, but one can never have to much bling.

Ribbon_cuff

Ribbon Cuff- I just love how this looks on my dear daughter. A little nod to the past.

you will need

  • ribbon [this is Strano Designs]
  • scraps of fabric – cotton works really well
  • button [this is a vintage piece]

So simple. I started by cutting the fabric so that it would fit my daughter wrist. I layered the natural cotton with the patterned cotton and sewed together with my machine. (notice the pink thread)

Next, I added some very casual pleats and sewed it to the ribbon. I like to cut the ribbon nice and long so when it is on the wrist, there are some nice tails. When I sewed it together, I just used one stitch up the center so that the piece would have some movement. Finally, I added the button.

Quilted_cuff

Finally.. a very easy quilted cuff.

simple piece together small bits of fabric into a length. Piece as you would a larger piece, add decorative top stitching, and a button. I cut the end with fabric scallop shears and I set the button and button hole offset so the edges would overlap slightly when worn.

I love these ideas on wearable art. You would never guess what I have right in front of me–some glass slides and some new alcohol inks….and the creativity soars!!!
