A message from CKU Events team

There has recently been some speculation about whether CKU-Provo will be the last CKU event. A final decision has not yet been made, however as the industry evolves we continue to adapt our events to best fit the needs of our attendees.

With limited event staff, we find it necessary to be selective about what events we are able to focus our energies on. We will continue to bring new event opportunities showcasing the highest caliber event experience you have come to expect. Any changes to CKU will not affect our other events, including CK Scrapbook Conventions (CKC’s). In fact we are continually adding new CKC’s including one in Nashville this September.

We are very excited about CKU-Provo this August. We’re busily preparing for an incredible event and we hope to see you there.

kids crafts grow up

Last week’s question of the week asked what your favorite retro craft was! The answers brought back some fun memories. My current fave is making Straw Flowers.

flower_card_web

I first saw these cool straw flowers on Martha. Cathy of California created these very cool straw flowers using vintage looms. I promptly ordered some supplies, and now I am hooked! What I love is creating little hair clips with them and attaching them to other projects.

For this card, I used the technique that Cindy Toby used on her layout. But instead of using the crepe paper, I used the twill tape.

Next I adhered the hair clip to the front of the card and added some stickers.

For a little more color, I cut a small strip of patterned paper and punched the scallop border.

A fun card with an embellishment that can be used!

Or Message boarders also spoke up with their faves…

Question of the Week

This week’s question is two parts…

With summer kicking into full gear, the warm weather conjures up memories of summer camp and all the crazy kiddie crafts. You remember yarn and Popsicle stick wall hangings, leather burning, plastic lace key chains, and pine cone bird feeders. These kitschy crafts were seeds of my love of crafting and creating. So my question…

What is your favorite retro or kiddie craft from the past?

And my challenge…
Create something that is inspired by your favorite retro kiddie craft. It can be a layout, a bag, a lap quilt, whatever! Post your creation on your blog, to your Flickr account, or to the gallery… then post a link to it here. I will feature my favorites on the community blog next week. And what the heck… my 3 favorite projects will get a special summer kick off prize!

Happy Creating!
