Organization

I need help!  How does everyone organize their sewing equipment, fabric, notions, patterns, scraps, etc.?

I have a pattern box and a sewing basket and that's it and my collection is beginning to take over a table and some of a closet! I have lots of room to work with, so ideas, products you guys use are all appreciated!

:)

(And yup, the hubby might have mentioned that it was time for me to go get myself some storage/organization for my sewing things when it was starting to creep over the house like the toddler toys! :) )

I'm lucky enough to have a sewing room with a large metal shelf with big wire baskets to hold my small fabric scraps and interfacing. I neatly fold my large yardage and organize it by color on the shelf. I also bought a peg board at the hardware store and little peg board hooks to hold my rulers, pattern paper and anything else that can hang. I have two plastic rolling containers that I keep notions in, but the bulk of my everyday supplies (scissors, chalk, etc.) are housed in my large drafting table drawers (a $50 thrift store score). My thread is organized by color on a thread rack and hung on a wall. For someone without a dedicated room, I would go to the Container Store or Ikea and look at their systems, and then see how you could adapt it to sewing. If you have room in your house, maybe you could dedicate a wall to your sewing area and put lots of vertical shelving for maximum storage. I'm thinking like this, http://www.containerstore.com/shop/elfa/bestSellingSolutions/officeSpace... or this, http://www.containerstore.com/shop/elfa/bestSellingSolutions/officeSpace.... Best of luck Kim and show us some pictures when you finish!

I have a new parameter on the organization...I need to be able to put it all away or close it up when I'm not using it! Hope to have a few years of toddling and babies around the house so I need to think kiddo safety!

Thinking about finding a cabinet of some sort to store everything in. Finding some stufff on Pinterest too!

I love the peg board idea for

I love the peg board idea for hanging things. I like to be able to see everything I have in my sewing room (so I don't forget I have it) so I have a tall metal rack that comes apart square by square and has things that you connect to the corners to build it however you want. I put scrapbook paper down on the cubes I want to put little things in that would slip through the holes in the grate.

We have baskets like this http://www.crateandbarrel.com/organizing-and-storage/storage-cabinets-carts/chrome-4-drawer-cart/s161287 in the sewing room in the office, which would be good for organizing fabric, because you'll still be able to see everything but it'll all be put away!

I have an Arrow Gidget II right now but yeah, with the addition of a serger, I might need to upgrade my entire space and organization system in general! I love my Arrow table and highly recommend it to everyone!
