Handy Pin Cushion
cherylmae03-08-13 1:22 pm I was always looking for my pin cushion, so came up with this idea. Someone may already have it? Anyway, I took some polyester batting about an 2" x2" and rolled it up and stitched it together in a roll and put a piece of sticky velcro on the right end of my machine about the same size(2"). I then just stuck my rolled batting to it and walla, a handy pin cushion, that I use all the time. It stays there just fine. Here's a picture. more |

Pattern adjustments
Beekeep111-27-12 3:48 pm I need to adjust most patterns and use builders plastic on the roll. Use a permanent marker to make changes. When you smooth the plastic over the paper pattern static elicticity is just enough to help keep it in place. Put pattern plus plastic together in a jip lock bag when finished and you are ready for the next garment. more |

I was so impreesed with the out come of my couch pillows. There is no bunching, bulging or flattening of this wonderful substance. My pillows no longer look like they have cellulite....lol! If you haven't tried it....do, it's costly but well worth it, I just know you'll love it! more |

At Your Disposal
jillybean01-17-12 6:46 pm I save empty tissue boxes and place them on my sewing table and ironing board. I then have a handy receptacle for clipped threads and small pieces of fabric. I even put used needles in them. When they get full, I just toss them out and replace with a new empty tissue box. more |

Embroidery Thread Fix
tvoss12309-30-11 10:33 pm I stumbled upon this recently. After using sewers aid to make the bobbin move more smoothly in the bobbin case, I had a problem with some cheap thread breaking repeatedly. On a whim, I ran a thin line of Sewers Aid down the side of the cone of embroidery thread. I let it soak in a few minutes then tried embroidering with it again. No more tangling or breaks in that spool of thread. I had some really weak rayon thread that would break in every machine I had. A thin line of Sewers Aid down the the spool saved most of these spools and I was able to embroider with the weak thread without any breaks. I used a Pfaff Creative Vision for the embroidery. Sewers Aid is a silicone liquid sold in 15 mL bottles for about $5. That bottle will last for years. more |

Thread cutter on a chain
HeartSongStudios08-10-11 1:26 pm I have found those little circular thread cutters to be a very handy at the sewing machine. I actually reach for it more than I do my scissors or rotary cutter when snipping threads of chained quilt squares or triangles, etc. Since I've also done a fair amount of bead work throughout my life, I created a beaded chain that I attached to floor lamp that I keep to the immediate right next to the sewing machine. But anyone else can do the same thing utilizing a spool a 1/4" ribbon. Cut the ribbon to the desired length--making sure it reaches where you need it--and attach it accordingly. It is much easier to reach for. I don't have to work my fingers into and out of the handles of the scissors, or worry about remembering to make sure the safty button is pushed closed on the rotary blade. more |

Old eyes and fishing equipment
zapper4570108-10-11 1:14 pm I keep a fly fishing tool with magnifying glass and extension clips handy at my sewing table. I use it to thread tiny needle eyes, hold small objects that need clipped together, and a magnet to collect loose needles and pins. It's very functional, and provides that third hand when I need it. more |
